Vision
The key objectives for this website development
project were:
- To create a social networking site for schools that is secure
and safe.
- To create a platform for teachers and students to assign,
discuss and submit their homework.
- To create a way to enable parents to get more involved in their
childrens' learning.
This idea has been so successful, that the Phatso team have won
National awards for their innovative idea.
Implementation
We set up a social portal for school networks, with three
seperate roles and sets of functionality for students, teachers and
parents. Our role administration allows for students to have a
profile page, where they can post messages to one another and add
friends or contacts via our database search tools.
Our infrastructure and timetable management software gives
students the ability to enrol into classes online. Assignment
submission and discussion of homework is implemented so that
teachers can assign and review homework submitted by the students
entirely within the web interface. Parents can view the childrens
progress and communicate directly to the teachers regarding their
childs progress.
System administrator and school administrator roles allow for
signups of new schools. Our customised security system means data
can be restricted to be viewed by only some roles or only by
members of a certain school. This enables schoolwide messageboards,
discussions and photo albums that ensure security.
Furthermore the monitoring of and reporting abuse is divided
between the managing persons for each individual school so that
inappropriate material can be quickly and effectively located and
removed.
